When a Yema T60 Lost Its Suspension — A Real-World Fix Using the OS-HSA035 Ride Height Sensor

It started with a simple warning light. A 2020 Yema T60 pulled into the shop last winter, the driver complaining that the suspension felt “off” and the headlights seemed to point at the ground. The dashboard showed a generic chassis system fault. Nothing dramatic yet, but the owner, a small fleet manager who ran three T60s for off-road survey work, knew something was wrong. He’d seen this before on other vehicles: ride height sensors failing, throwing off the entire air suspension calibration.

Diagnosis: The Telltale Signs

The real clue came during a quick scan with a mid-level diagnostic tool. The controller reported a “plausibility fault” on the rear-left ride height sensor. The resistance readings were erratic, jumping between 200 Ω and open circuit. On the lift, I could see the old sensor’s plastic housing had a hairline crack near the mounting tab. It needed replacement, and fast, because the T60’s self-leveling system was starting to compensate in weird ways. The owner reported the truck dipped noticeably when turning left under braking. Not safe, and definitely not comfortable.

The Solution: OS-HSA035 as a Drop-In Replacement

The OS-HSA035 from OSRAM is listed as an Audi part (OE 4F0616571K), but it’s a direct mechanical and electrical fit for the Yema T60’s rear suspension setup. The sensor comes pre-calibrated? Well, no—ride height sensors require a reset procedure after installation, but the OS-HSA035 at least matches the OE travel range (about 90° rotation) and output curve (0.5 to 4.5V with a 5V reference). The connector is a standard 3-pin AMP Junior Timer, same as on the Yema’s harness. No wiring modifications needed.

Installation took about 30 minutes, including time to raise the rear axle, unclip the old sensor, swap over the arm link (the OS-HSA035 comes with a new arm but I reused the Yema’s ball joint end to save time), and bolt it in. The hardest part was the awkward location—tucked behind the left rear wheel liner. Pro tip: remove the wheel and fender liner for easier access. A penetrating spray on the old mounting bolts helps; they tend to seize.

After installation, the calibration was straightforward: lower the vehicle to normal ride height on a level surface, connect the scan tool, and run the “ride height sensor adaptation” routine. The T60’s control unit accepted the new sensor without complaint. The suspension warning light went off immediately. A test drive confirmed the self-leveling function was back to normal—no more dipping on turns, headlights aimed correctly, and the ride felt firm but composed.

Pro Tip: The most common mistake is failing to zero the sensor arm before installation. The arm must be in the exact same position as the old one when the vehicle is at standard ride height. Use a piece of tape to mark the orientation on the old sensor before removal. Otherwise, the control unit may throw an implausible signal and require a lengthy calibration cycle to clear.

How the OS-HSA035 Holds Up in the Field

That T60 has been back for two routine oil changes since the repair. No recurrence of the sensor fault. The owner said the other two T60s in his fleet are now scheduled for preventative replacement before the winter season. The OS-HSA035’s sealed housing and reinforced arm linkage seem more robust than the original Yema-sourced sensor, which had exposed connector seals that allowed moisture ingress. OSRAM’s aftermarket version uses a molded rubber boot over the connector base—a small but meaningful improvement.

The sensor is also significantly cheaper than an OEM Yema part (if you can even find one). At about one-third the price of a dealer-sourced unit, it’s a no-brainer for fleet operators or DIY owners. The only caveat: you need a scan tool capable of performing the adaptation. Most mid-range OBD2 tools can do it, but a simple code reader won’t suffice. For shops that work on VAG-based vehicles, this sensor is already in stock—now it’s just a matter of knowing it fits Yema models too.
