Walk into any independent VW shop in North America and you’ll see the same bin in the corner—a plastic tub overflowing with failed ignition coils, most of them stamped with the VW logo and a genuine part number. Pro Tip: Never mix old and new coils on an EA888. The ECU learns the individual coil’s characteristics over time. Replacing just one coil with a different brand or revision can cause a phantom misfire on a different cylinder a few hundred miles later. Replace all four in one go.

OEM still wins for warranty coverage and for owners who refuse to entertain any deviation from factory specs.
