[GALLARDO](https://longweiparts.com/product-tag/gallardo/) Ride Height Sensor: A 45-Minute Replacement That Ends the Suspension Guesswork

A 2012 LP560-4 rolls in with the driver complaining the car sits low on the driver’s front corner overnight. Next morning, the level comes back. No warning light—or maybe one that flashes once and clears itself. VCDS shows a plausibility fault on the left front level sensor. The strut is fine, the pump is fine. The problem is a failed sensor.

The factory ride height sensor—OE 8R0941285G—is a Hall-effect unit bolted to the upper control arm link on the Gallardo. It sits low, behind the wheel liner, where it eats road grit, brake dust, and every splash from the front tire. The internal wiper track wears; the signal gets noisy or intermittent. When that happens, the suspension control module receives inconsistent voltage, and the nose lift or auto-leveling starts doing irrational things.

Don’t throw struts or a compressor pump at this. Check the level sensors first.

What you need:

  • Jack and two stands
  • 5mm Allen key
  • T30 Torx socket on a 1/4″ ratchet
  • 8 Nm torque limit (M6 bolts)
  • VCDS or OBDeleven for basic settings

The swap, step by step:

  • Lift the car, support it, and pull the front wheel. Turn the steering full lock if you need more room.
  • Unplug the three-pin electrical connector from the sensor. Press the release tab—don’t pry it.
  • Remove the link rod from the sensor arm using the 5mm Allen. Save the plastic bushing; they’re small and easy to lose.
  • Undo the three T30 screws and drop the old sensor off its bracket.
  • Move the link rod onto the new OS-HSA007 | OSRAM Ride Height Sensor | Fits Audi | OE# 8R0941285G. The arm on the OS-HSA007 is indexed in the same factory position, so you can bolt it up without guesswork.
  • Reinstall the sensor and torque the M6 bolts to 8 Nm. Anything more and you’ll crack the plastic housing.
  • Reconnect the link rod, then the electrical connector. Lower the car.
  • Perform the level control basic setting with VCDS. Skip this, and the fault code returns even with a good sensor.

Pro tip: Compare the new sensor arm’s sweep against the old one before bolting it in. If the arm is off by one tooth, your ride height will be off by centimeters. The OS-HSA007 ships with the arm pre-indexed, which is the difference between a 45-minute job and a two-hour “figure it out” session.

Common mistakes: Reusing a worn link rod is the most frequent shortcut—it introduces free play and makes a new sensor feel like a bad one. Also, don’t clear the codes and call it done without the basic setting. The suspension module needs to relearn the zero point, or the fail-safe logic stays triggered.

Dealer pricing on the original sensor is steep, and availability is spotty.
